Lady Gaga revives a fiery ’90s Versace dress

Following a slew of Gucci looks, the star championed another Italian label on her House of Gucci tour

Since Lady Gaga kicked off her House of Gucci press tour earlier this month, she’s been wearing—surprise!—Gucci nonstop. She kicked off the tour in a purple gown with incredible sleeves, and followed it up with a monogrammed cape and skirt suit—both looks from collections that made their runway debut earlier this year. But always one to keep us on our toes, Gaga switched things up for the film’s premiere in Italy this weekend. Championing another Italian fashion label—Versace—she wore a fiery new interpretation of one of its iconic ’90s dresses.

The laced-up, corset-style Versace gown featured a high slit and would have looked at home on Jessica Rabbit. The custom design from Donatella Versace is actually based on a frock that walked down the Versace runway for their spring 1995 collection, designed by her brother, the late Gianni Versace. Brought to the present day, however, the bodycon silhouette felt just as fresh and modern (it helps when an A-lister who can pull off virtually anything wears it). The choice to forgo Gucci for a night and pay homage to another Italian trailblazer on her tour was certainly a thoughtful choice on Gaga’s part. It broke up the repetition of seeing her in the same label over and again, yet still channeled the exuberant spirit of Italian fashion. Not to mention she just looked absolutely killer in the dress, which fit her like a glove. We predict an archival Gucci gown is next on her list. A sexy, Tom Ford-era design, perhaps?
